Procedure
Whenever you upgrade your QB application, the company files you use on it must also be updated. You don?t need to worry as you have to update them only once when you upgrade the software. Follow this procedure to update the data file and prevent error messages from developing when you access the file-Step 1- Check your company file location
You can use the steps mentioned below to find out the company file location and ensure that it isn?t saved on a different computer-- Launch QuickBooks and open the company file you want to update.
- Press F2 in QuickBooks to open the Product Information Window.
- Go to the File Information section and note down where the data file is stored.
Step 2- Begin updating your data file
After you find out the location of the company file on your computer, you can proceed to update it as shown in the following steps-- Sign out from all the user accounts in your QuickBooks and launch the new QB version.
- Access the File menu and select the Open or Restore company option.
- Click the Open a company file option and tap Next (If it?s a backup file, click the Restore a backup copy option).
- Specify the location of your company file and click Open.
- Enter your admin password to sign in to the company file as an admin user.
- Click the Update Now option and let the software update the file. Make sure to don?t interrupt the file update to prevent corruption or permanent data loss.
After the file is completely updated, you can now open it easily on the new version of QuickBooks on your computer.
