The laminates, films, and plastic sheets that are used in various industries have different purposes video showcasing, production of packaging materials, labelling, etc. These products are developed with extreme precision as they are carved out of big mass production and used by manufacturers from various industries.

The products made out of these materials are used majorly for their even surfaces & smoothness. However, since these materials are used for various purposes in different industries, the smoothness levels or the friction standards of the surface also vary from industry to industry. For example, the usage of films in reels must have maximum smoothness & evenness for the smooth movement of the roller and even video showcasing, on the contrary in the packaging material industry, the friction standards need to be a little high so that the packaging material does not sip and the manufacturer can guarantee anti-slip protection. Therefore, a certain amount of friction level is required and with absolute evenness.

This is the major reason for the testing of surfaces of flexible materials. To enhance & elevate the testing standards, the Presto Group offers top-notch lab testing equipment that is widely used by manufacturers from all across the globe known as the coefficient of friction tester.

The instrument is trusted by manufacturers due to its testing measures that can be conducted with different material types in such an ergonomic way that friction testing becomes a lot easier.

Conducting Friction Testing with the Coefficient of Friction Tester

The coefficient of friction tester conducts the friction test against three variable materials that are:

1. Metal

2. Glass

3. Sample (itself)

The results of the test are also generated into two different categories of friction i.e. static friction & dynamic friction.

The friction levels of static friction and dynamic friction differ from each other due to the momentum generated and prolonged momentum against the materials that are being tested.

To conduct the test, the foremost step is to adjust the specimen with the help of the clampers and the fly screws to attach the metal sled provided along with the equipment.

While conducting the glass-to-specimen test standard, the specimen is laid over the metal sled and the operator must make sure that it is tightly clamped and contains no wrinkles. Similarly, during the metal-to-specimen test, the specimen is laid out over the glass panel and firmly clamped for no wrinkles at all. In the final testing measure, the specimen is clamped with the help of fly screws on both the metal sled and the glass panel.

Once the specimen is firmly clamped and free from any wrinkles, the operator can initiate the sliding movement of the metal sled with the help of the PID-based controller.

The metal sled starts moving across the specimen at a certain speed and the friction level or the smoothness standard is indicated on the microprocessor-based digital display. To determine the coefficient of static friction, the friction level indicated on the initial movement is recorded by the manufacturer and to calculate the dynamic friction levels, the operator can calculate the average levels of all the recordings indicated during the sliding of the metal sled.

The metal sled is weighed at 200 grams to meet the compliance of standards and moves at a speed of 150 mm per minute as per the guidelines mentioned in the standards.

Determining the coefficient of static friction as well as the coefficient of dynamic friction becomes easy due to the inculcation of state-of-the-art attributes within the instrument that serve as helping aids during the conduction of the test.

State-of-the-art Attributes of the Coefficient of Friction Tester

The friction tester manufacturer is curated & constructed with all the futuristic features within the instrument to expedite the testing methods, ensure accuracy-driven results, and provide maximum consistency.

The most prominent feature of the instrument is its ability to conduct three-way testing without any hassle as it allows the manufacturer to determine the smoothness levels of plastics, films & laminates altogether against variable materials like glass, metal & the sample itself.

Another top-quality feature of the instrument is the incorporation of fly screws that clamp the specimen firmly enough to avoid wrinkles and ensure highly accurate test results.

The instrument offers a highly advanced PID-base controller that is imbibed with feather touch controls for smooth controlling & functioning of the instrument along with a microprocessor-based digital display that indicates the friction levels of the specimen whether kinetic or static.

The operator can also avail a highly advanced graphical representation of data features within the instrument as it enables the operator to not only keep track of data but also compare & analyze the data from previous readings as it allows the operator for a better and enhanced understanding of the friction levels.

The friction tester manufacturer has ensured a robust build of the instrument due to the usage of mild steel as the most prominent material and a durable glass panel on top of the instrument. The mild steel material is coated with 7-layered powder paint to avoid corrosion & rusting of the instrument.

The operator can easily attain the COF value after the determination of static & kinetic friction levels using an easy mathematical calculation.

All the high-class features are incorporated by the friction tester manufacturer to serve the friction testing with maximum ease & accuracy.
